About
I was that horse mad kid.
I dreamed of riding horses, I spoke of nothing but horses, heck, I even spent hours pretending to BE a horse!
Passion alone does not get you into veterinary science though. I initially studied psychology and neurophysiology at Adelaide University before embarking on a human resource management career.
Although human safety was very important, I could not resist my lifelong horse obsession.
I left corporate Australia to pursue a Veterinary Degree at the University of Sydney and then obtained a post-graduate diploma in Animal Chiropractic.
After several years in veterinary practice, I was presented a once in a lifetime opportunity to pursue a PhD under the supervision of Professor Paul McGreevy and Dr Andrew McLean. The Science of Horse Training project resulted in several well-received papers and I was hooked on equine behaviour!
Economics dictated that I focus on teaching during my post-doctoral period. I lectured and ran laboratories in equine biomechanics, equine exercise physiology and equine behaviour at Charles Sturt University and Melbourne Polytechnic as well as a capstone subject in the Post Graduate Diploma Animal Biomechanical Medicine.
I returned to industry in 2017 where I have been working for the Harness Racing Victoria Integrity Department as a Veterinarian.
Now I am pleased to share with you my passion project, my very own career capstone: Safer Horses.
Equitation science is no longer in its infancy. It is a body of robust and rigorous knowledge dedicated to researching horse riding and training through the study of learning theory, ethology, cognition, biomechanics, psychology and sports science. Through the magic of technology I provide the training, consultations and resources that brings this knowledge to you in a practical way so you get to do what you want with your horse safely.
